Immersing of the goddess in the water

Hey guys,

This is Rae. Today was Dashami-the last day of the puja where we finally get ready to bid farewell to Ma Durga and her children and they are taken away in trucks and immersed in the river Ganga. In the afternoon we followed our traditions and took our school books down to have them “blessed” by the idols to ensure that we always perform well at school as well as in other activities. We also worshipped the idols and prayed that everyone shall remain happy and safe and succeed in life. Around 5:30 pm, the trucks came. The dhaks were played loudly and with more gusto than ever as we watched the idols being carried away from the safety of our balcony. I have to admit, it was rather sad to see the pandal with the idols, surrounded by people, chattering and the dhakis playing the dhaks with pomp, suddenly become vacant. This year, may not have been like all the usual pujas we had before the pandemic and it did not have the same puja vibe as before but we all adjusted and we did enjoy ourselves. So, I think, everyone felt a little sad in their hearts that the puja was over but we look forward to next year where hopefully, we will be free of this dreadful pandemic and can enjoy our Durga Puja like we did in the past. Stay safe and happy! More later…

Ciao,

~RAE
